What are the library's service hours during the pandemic?

Currently, the Library's limited service hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10am - 5pm
Wednesday 10am - 6pm
Saturday 10am - 2pm

The computer lab is open during the above hours for reservations; the rest of the building is closed to browsing, but the staff is ready to assist you by phone @ 207-883-4723.

Is the Library open to the public?

The Libray is open for browsing and computer use. A Scarborough Public Library card is required to borrow materials. We ask that you limit your visit to 15 minutes, a mask and social distancing are required. No seating is available.Contact-free curbside pickup remains available during all operating hours. Computer use, copying, scanning, and faxing will continue to be available (30-minute sessions, by appointment).

Is the library still offering programming?

To comply with social distancing guidelines, we will not hold any in-library programs. Many of our programs have moved online, see the Events page for details.

How do I get a library card if I don't want to come into the Library?

Please email Mike Windsor, Circulation Manager, at mwindsor [at] scarboroughlibrary.org. Please provide:

A photo of your driver's license;
If your driver's license does not have your Scarborough address, you will also need to provide a photo of a piece of mail with your local address (bill, vehicle registration, lease, etc.)
Phone number

Items I returned during the pandemic are still on my account. Why?

Returned items will sit in quarantine for a minimum of 72 hours. We appreciate your patience with our extended check-in time. Fines will not accrue for items in quarantine.

Is Interlibrary Loan available?

Interlibrary loan continues to be available. Items requested through Minerva or Mainecat can be picked up curbside. You will receive an email or phone notification when your items are ready to pick up.

What has happened to the reciprocal borrowing agreement?

Reciprocal borrowing (patrons using their card at another library) has been suspended statewide. This decision was made by the State Library to help protect patrons and library workers from the spread of coronavirus. This will also allow libraries to better serve their local communities as libraries gradually reopen.
