Minutes of the Meeting
October 19, 2023 (hybrid meeting)
Attendees: Bill Donovan (President and Chair), Kate Borduas, Kim Corthell, J. David Dittmer, Ellen Detlefsen, Peter Freilinger, Judy Johnson, Barbara Kapp, Kathy Little, Susan Powell, Richard Schrader (Director, non-voting), Catherine Morrison (Assistant Director, non-voting), Nancy Crowell (Director Emeritus, non-voting)
Absent: Nicholas McGee
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM by Bill Donovan.
Introduction of Chip Schrader: Meeting began with welcome to Chip and brief self introductions by each Trustee.
Library Tour: Nancy Crowell led everyone on an extended tour of the library, inside and out.
Note: Kim Corthell left at this point in the meeting, 5:25 PM.
Consent Calendar: Motion to accept was made by Barbara Kapp, seconded by Ellen Detlefsen, and carried unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: Dave Dittmer had nothing to add to the written report he circulated to the board. Motion to file for audit was made by Barbara Kapp, seconded by Kate Borduas, and carried unanimously.
Library Director’s Report: Chip Schrader summarized and responded to a few questions about his report on the Managed Tablet Program.
Town Councilor’s Remarks: Nick McGee was unable to attend the meeting.
President’s Remarks: Bill Donovan drew everyone’s attention to the article in Scarborough Living, for which Nancy Crowell was featured on the cover, and noted that it included some good history about the library.
New Business:
Strategic Plan. Bill Donovan explained that the PNG Committee will be in charge of revising the strategic plan, and that it will be a high priority for them. Peter Freilinger said that the committee will meet on November 2 and begin to discuss the process, noting that the full Board will have input in the plan. Trustees should feel free to make suggestions or share ideas with Kim Corthell, chair of PNG.
Report and discussion on Community Center Ad Hoc Committee. Bill Donovan reported that last week’s meeting was mainly focused on educating the committee members on the background and process of the community center project.

Historical Society letter response. Chip Schrader shared a letter from Scarborough Historical Society, naming the library as beneficiary in the event they dissolve as an organization. It was decided that Chip and Bill Donovan will send a letter acknowledging receipt and thanking the Historical Society.
