SCARBOROUGH – Master African drummer Jordan Messan Benissan will be performing at the Scarborough Public Library on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 7:00 pm. The event is part of a series of programs being offered at the Library in partnership with the Camden Conference in support of the 2016 Conference theme “The New Africa.”

Benissan was born in Togo and is a member of the Ewe People. He was introduced to music and dance at an early age through ceremonies and rituals and received his traditional music training from several West African master drummers.

Benissan currently teaches music at Colby College and has performed traditional African drumming and Highlife music around the world. His recordings have been nominated for “Best World Music Album” by Phoenix Magazine and featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered."
