Through the cloudLibrary Scarborough Public Library (SPL) patrons have access to eBooks and eAudiobooks purchased by SPL, the Maine Infonet Download Library and other Maine libraries which like SPL have chosen to share their collections. SPL patrons can borrow and reserve titles purchased by SPL or the Maine Infonet Download Library. SPL patrons may borrow available titles owned by other sharing libraries but may not place holds on these copies.
Scarborough residents are entitled to a free Portland Public Library card. With this card they can then borrow and reserve items from PPL's collection of cloudLibrary materials which are not accessible using their SPL card. If you do not have a PPL card, one can be obtained at the Scarborough Public Library Circulation Desk. Consult the User's Guide on how to add an account to your cloudLibrary app.
The cloudLibrary app can be used with most smartphones and tablets and on PCs and Macs. Books can be transferred from a computer to some dedicated eReaders including the Nook and Kobo. A limited number of Nook eReaders are available for loan.

For tablets and smartphones, look for the free cloudLibrary app in your app store. The first time you open the app, enter your library card number without any spaces. There is no PIN number. 3 books may be checked out at a time for 3 weeks. For more information on using cloudLibrary consult the User's Guide.
You may suggest books be purchased for the cloudLibrary using the "Suggest" feature within the app or by emailing askSPL [at] scarboroughlibrary.org
Note: If using a dedicated eReader such as the Nook or Kobo, be sure to create an Adobe ID before installing the cloudLibrary software on your computer. Explicitly provide this Adobe ID, do not choose the option to have one generated for you by cloudLibrary. This will facilitate your use of other eBook platforms.
Kindle Fire Users: There is no cloudLibrary app in the Kindle app store. Use these instructions to load the app on your Kindle Fire. If you get stuck at the Install step, power off your device and try again. This appears to fix the issue.
To troubleshoot the cloudLibrary app and resolve error messages, see the support section of the cloudLibrary website. Your card must be current (not expired) and you must have no outstanding charges over $5.00 to use this service.
