"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go." -- Dr. Seuss
I still remember how thrilled I was when my parents allowed me to walk all by myself to the public library in the town where I grew up in Massachusetts. Wherever I moved as a young adult, whether in Stamford, Connecticut or Richmond, Indiana or other places, getting a library card in my new location was a priority. With my Masters in Library Science, I started working in the children's room of a small public library. I also worked in a large county library and a college library before starting my career as a school librarian. And now I have come full circle back to my dream job: working in a Youth Services room and doing what I love best: connecting kids with those "just-right" books they will love.
My favorite authors are many and vary from day to day. At the moment I love Betty Culley, a Maine author who has written two novels in verse; Gary D. Schmidt, who creates unforgettable characters; Ruth Sepetys for her Young Adult historical fiction; and Kate DiCamillo, because who doesn't love Mercy Watson and Flora and Ulysses?
