“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” -Joan Didion
I joined the Youth Services team at Scarborough Public Library because of a passion for community, young people, education, and media. Libraries and reading have played an important role in my life since childhood, and it feels fulfilling to support young people in finding books that shape and inspire them and create a welcoming space for all ages. Prior to joining the library, I did violence prevention education to students across Cumberland County for 3 years with a local nonprofit.
Some meaningful books from my childhood include The Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes, and Miss. Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. These days you can always catch me reading a good picture book (like Mr. S by Monica Arnaldo), as well as anything by Sally Rooney or Donna Tartt when I’m looking for something more suited to my age :)
