A book recommendation relating to our October Creators* project theme: Myself
Tomboy by Liz Prince
Tomboy, a graphic memoir, tells the story of author Liz Prince and her struggle existing somewhere between the roles of "girl" and "boy". Liz hates the dresses, tutus, and princess games that seem to come with being a girl, but she's not a boy, either, as she learns when she isn't allowed to pitch for her little league team. Prince tells her stories in drawn anecdotes. as she discovers that an identity is whatever you want it to be. Much like our Creators* project, this graphic novel mixes Art and Self to create something wonderful.
*The Creators* project is an opportunity for artists, writers, and creators in grades 6-12 to display their work at the Library. Exhibits must relate in some way to the monthly theme, be smaller than 11"x17", and be any artistic medium (paint, pencil, writing, poetry, etc.).
