(Update: 9/18/2025 - We are currently at capacity for adult & teen library volunteers. If you are an adult interested in helping individuals practice their spoken English, you are still encouraged to apply.)
If you love to put things in order and keep objects and spaces in good condition, you might enjoy volunteering at the library! Our volunteers come in regularly for 1-2 hours each week, helping with shelf reading, dusting, locating missing or damaged books, assisting with special projects, and other tasks as needed. Additionally, we enlist teen volunteers as Summer Reading Buddies and adults can sign up to be English Conversation Partners.
Who can volunteer?
The library accepts volunteer applications from individuals who are at least 12 years old (with written parental permission) and older with one exception: the Reading Buddies program accepts rising 6th graders and up regardless of age. Families with children under 12 who want to volunteer together can Adopt-A-Stack in Youth Services, helping us keep books in order and in good condition. If this interests you, please email kswayze@scarboroughlibrary.org for more details.
Other ways to support the library:
- Join Friends of Scarborough Library to help with book sales and other special events.
- Keep an eye out for vacancies with the Scarborough Public Library's Board of Trustees.
- We are grateful to the Scarborough Garden Club volunteers who maintain our flowerbeds.
Thank you for considering a volunteer role with us!
