The Scarborough Public Library installed a new emergency diesel generator in January 2026. Getting the equipment installed and operational was years in the making and was championed by Library director Nancy Crowell, supported by the Town of Scarborough, and donated to by many community members.
The generator ensures that the Library can remain operational during power outages, providing reliable access to electricity, information, and essential services when the community needs them most. With this addition, the Library is better equipped to serve as a safe, accessible hub during times of crisis.
The Library is a warming and cooling center during extreme weather, offering a safe, climate-controlled environment. As an emergency response partner, the Library is integrated into local school safety planning as a designated safe location for students in the event of an emergency. The Library is proud to be part of the multiple layers of community services available to residents in the Town of Scarborough.
