Cloud LIbrary consists of books purchased by SPL, the Maine Infonet Download Library, and other libraries, which like SPL, have chosen to share their collections. All titles accessible with your SPL card can be found using the Browse tab.
Need more than three books at a time? Scarborough residents are entitled to a free Portland Public Library card which they can add as an additional account in the cloudLibrary app. A PPL card can be obtained at the Scarborough Public Library Circulation Desk. Consult the User's Guide on how to add an account to your cloudLibrary app
Follow this link to find the app for your device.
Books can be transferred from a computer to some dedicated eReaders including the Nook and Kobo. See delivery options below. Nook eReaders are available for loan.
Use the "Suggest" feature within the app or email askSPL@scarboroughlibrary.org with your purchase request.
Generally, there are no limits per month (other than 3 checkouts at a time). However, some older titles are purchased by the Library under a pay-per-use model and we set a limit of 10 of these titles a month per patron. In addition, there is also an overall budget cap for the month. You may become aware of these limits, when many of the books you are searching for aren't available for the same number of days. This usually happens as we approach the end of the month, and you'll notice that the wait time is the same as days left in the month.
The library has recently added Libby because it works with more devices including Kindle paperwhites. We suggest you browse both Libby and Cloud Library when looking for digital content.
Visit the cloudLibrary Launch Page for more information on this service or to download the app to your device. For more information on using cloudLibrary consult the User's Guide.
