A Message from the Director --

As we plan library programs for the community, one of the outcomes we try to achieve is offering an opportunity for people to meet others.

Friends of Scarborough Library is an organization that joins together library supporters to raise funds in support of collections, services, and programs. They are best known for sponsoring the children’s summer reading activities, the Book Page newsletter, and museum and park passes. They also make generous contributions to our collections budget and the license that makes our movie matinees possible.

These gifts require a robust membership. The annual used book sale is no longer possible due to the loss of storage and sorting space. Membership dues and smaller pop-up sales are the current source of revenue.  New fundraising ideas are being solicited as are eager volunteers to make the next big idea a reality.

I hope you’ll consider joining the Friends. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, distinct from the Scarborough Public Library Corporation. You’ll find membership information on their website scarboroughlibraryfriends. The new membership year begins in June. There are various membership levels but as with any true friendship, the value is gold.

In friendship,

Nancy E. Crowell
Library Director
