You may have encountered this Danish term meaning cozy, a feeling of contentment, and enjoying good things. It encourages comforters, candles, a warm beverage, and of course a great book to read. (Perhaps one of several that are on the topic of hygge, pronounced hyoo-guh.)
Not everyone in our community has an easy time practicing hygge. The need for heating assistance is very real for some of our neighbors. You can help by attending the annual Fuel Rally sponsored by Project G.R.A.C.E. on Saturday, February 11, 10am – noon, at the Town Hall and Public Safety building. Chili and Chowder may be ordered through the Rally website and online donations are being accepted.
We are expecting a bitterly cold weekend. For those who need respite from the cold, the public library will serve as a warming center. You are welcome to stop in for any length of time. We will be open Friday and Saturday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. If hours are extended, they will be posted.
With the longer days of winter, I encourage you to read a little longer, explore a different genre, and share your discoveries with others. If you need some ideas, our website is filled with suggestions and our library display areas are constantly being restocked. Look for our “staff pick” bookmarks in some titles.
Are you hibernating? Not sure? Check out the National Park Service’s explanation of the different kinds of dormancy. If you are hibernating, and don’t want to venture out in the cold to visit the library, we have several digital resources, most of which can be accessed from the warmth of your home.
I offer warm wishes for a new year of discovery and contentment.
