October 11. That date has been highlighted on my calendar for months. That is the first day of absentee and early voting for the November 8 election. The Library is proud to be before voters with a bond request for an expansion that will determine the capabilities of your library to serve you for the next 30 years.
While we discuss space and size, it is important to remember that the plans are in support of our mission, vision, and values.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Scarborough Public Library is to provide access to a broad and deep collection and high-quality services that promote lifelong learning in a welcoming, community-centered facility.
Vision Statement:
The Scarborough Public Library will be an innovative leader in implementing a variety of strategies to bring knowledge and promote learning opportunities for people of all ages.

We have done the planning. Now it is your turn to determine the value you place on the role of your public library in your community. Your vote is an affirmation of the importance of literacy, civil discourse, lifelong learning, and community resiliency. It is recognition of the value of the one trusted public institution that serves all ages at any time of life.
We have information about our project on our website https://expansion.scarboroughlibrary.org/, and in the foyer, and I am always available to offer you a tour and discuss our needs in person.
To obtain information about how to receive an absentee ballot or to register to vote, please review the Scarborough Town Clerk’s webpage. Scarborough has one polling location at the high school on November 8. https://www.scarboroughmaine.org/departments/town-clerk/elections
After all of our planning – over more than five years – the decision is now in your hands.
Respectfully,

Nancy E. Crowell
Library Director
