Cradle to Grave -- Our Mission and Privilege

As I make presentations to community groups, I like to remind audiences that our public library is prepared to serve our citizens from "cradle to grave." This idiom has real meaning to us and this is represented in the variety of programming we have listed in this newsletter. We will have the traditional story times and play space for our youngest users: crawling, playing with blocks, and learning to turn pages in our bright and sturdy board book collection. We will welcome Marilyn Gugliucci from University of New England who will demonstrate how virtual reality can help health care providers be empathetic to the challenges of aging and disability. And Kelly Blanchette from Hospice of Southern Maine will provide an opportunity to learn about the stages of grief.

The public library is a nurturing and safe space for these formative and sensitive activities. Our programs are free and open. Only our most popular programs such as our movie matinee may require advance registration because of limited seating. We are proud to be able to offer information and support to you at whatever point you and your family are in your life journey. If you haven't used our services in a while, I hope an upcoming program will be interesting and helpful to you.

With respect,

Nancy E. Crowell
