Summer Begins

A Message from the Director --

Late June 2023

Library activity has cycles just as our lives do.  We respond to school calendars, publishers’ releases, seasonal traditions, and even weather.  We look forward to summer and we adjust our programming and reading promotions.  The Friends of the Library are generous in their support of the program that encourages our community’s kiddos to read all summer long. Research confirms that participation in library summer reading activities can reduce the summer slide in literacy skills. Our “Think Outside!” kick-off event is appropriately on June 21 – the first day of summer.

Adults change their reading habits too.  We see an increase in recreational reading and the search for a good “beach read”. We offer a summer reading program for our “older” readers and there’s a chance to win a prize so be sure to watch for details. This might also be the “season” that you borrow one of our museum or park passes.

And about that “book”... We use the term to include titles in digital formats as well as paper.  Kindle readers will be pleased to learn that we now offer “Libby” for e-books and audio books in addition to our Cloud Library selections.

Happy summer!
